Immediate Effects of Sensory Stimulation to the Affected Foot on Trunk Movement in Sitting Position in Patients after a Stroke

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine immediate effects of sensory stimulation to the affected foot on trunk movement in sitting position in patients after a stroke.
Methods: Gait group (GG) consisted of 6 subjects with hemiplegia and non-gait group (NGG) was composed of 6 subjects with hemiplegia after a s¥òoke. le subjects in both groups were given an intervention only once for 30 minutes. Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS) and the Sensory test were used as assessment tools.
Results: TIS dynamic in GG and tactile sensation of dorsal, 1-toe and 5-toe in post-test between GG and NGG presented significant different.
Conclusion: Sensory stimulation to the affected foot influenced sensory percep on itself as wel1 as trunk movement and this effect was more shown in patients with hemiplegia who can walk.
